摘要 <p>A solid finely-divided catalyst is suspended in a liquid phase and a gaseous reagent continuously passed therethrough; the vaporized reaction product removed with the vaporized liquid phase is continuously separated and the gaseous reagent continuously recycled. The temperature may be below or above the boiling-point of the reaction product at the pressure employed, but if above, a solvent is used which remains liquid under the reaction conditions. Preferably the liquid phase is mechanically agitated throughout the reaction. If the reaction is carried out in a plurality of stages, the condensate from each stage is used to feed the next one until in the last stage the liquid phase contains the desired concentration of reaction product which is continuously separated from the vapours removed. In examples, octene-2 and isobutylene dimer are hydrogenated with nickel catalyst, and methyl ethyl ketone hydrogenated with nickel or kieselguhr as catalyst.ALSO:Ethylenically unsaturated compounds (e.g. octene-2, or isobutylene dimer, in presence of nickel) or ketones (e.g. methyl ethyl ketone in presence of nickel on kieselguhr) may be hydrogenated by means of a process wherein the catalyst is suspended in a liquid phase and the hydrogen continuously passed therethrough; the vaporized reaction product which is removed with the vaporized liquid phase being continuously separated and the hydrogen continuously recycled.</p>
