A roller configuration for a grass mowing machine (100) is provided to reduce roller overlap marks. The roller configuration may be used on a grass mowing machine (100) having a first row of cutting units (102-104) and a second row of cutting units (105-106). Each cutting unit (102-104,105-106) has a roller (126-130,132-136) with a reduced diameter portion (137,138,147,148) adjacent a full diameter end portion (139,140,149,150). The full diameter end portions (139,140,149,150) of the rollers (126-130,132-136) on the first row of cutting units (102-104) are aligned with the reduced diameter portions (137,138,147,148) of the rollers (126-130,132-136) on the second row of cutting units (105-106) during mowing operations, and the reduced diameter portions (137,138,147,148) of the rollers (126-130,132-136) on the first row of cutting units (102-104) aligned with the full diameter end portions (139,140,149,150) of the rollers (126-130,132-136) on the second row of cutting units during (105-106) mowing operations.
