METHOD OF UPDATING TRACKING AREA IN MOBILE COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

A method of updating tracking area in a mobile communication system is provided to reduce a signaling load on a wireless network by disclosing a tracking area renewal procedure in a network when a terminal is moving from an active state to a new tracking area in a mobile communication system. A terminal transmits a measurement report message to a preexisting cell. The preexisting cell transmits a handover command message to the terminal. The terminal performs a handover. A new cell transmits a path switch request message to an MME(Mobility Management Entity). The MME switches a path of the terminal according to the path switch request message which is received from the new cell. The MME confirms the new cell identifier and tracking area identifier. The terminal performs a tracking area renewal.
