A pharmaceutical composition having obovatol derivatives or pharmaceutically allowable salts thereof as active ingredients is provided to induce cell apoptosis and inhibit growth of cancer cells. A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating cancer comprises obovatol derivatives represented by the formula 1 and pharmaceutically allowable salts of the obovatol derivatives as active ingredients. In the formula 1, R^1 and R^2 independently or selectively show methyl, ethyl, acetyl, methoxyacetyl or ethoxyacetyl; and R^3 indicates propyl, propenyl or allyl. The cancer is selected from the group consisting of stomach cancer, prostate cancer, breast cancer, kidney cancer, liver cancer, brain tumor, lung cancer, uterine cancer, bladder cancer, pancreatic cancer and blood cancer.
