Conventional cutting means such as presses, punches, water jets or lasers are used on a flat surface (10) comprising a flexible sheet to create a structure (11) comprising two opposing upright basis strips (12, 13), and at least one structural connection (14) joining the two strips together and formed by e.g. a lengthwise strip of the same material. These connections can have various two-dimensional shapes and dimensions such as straight, slanting, zigzag, curved, perforated, slotted or fold line-containing strips. One of the basis strips can include at least one non-connecting structural part (15, 16) which is not joined to the other basis strip. The structural connections and parts can be shaped as e.g. flowers (17A, 17B), leaves (17C), hearts, animals, hooks, arrows, anchors, spirals, loops, geometric shapes, random shapes, cartoon characters, letters, numbers or logos. The two strips are brought together lengthwise or skewed at an angle to each other, either manually or mechanically, then joined together either directly or at a distance from each other using e.g. adhesive (18G), screws, rivets, studs or complimentary male and female connector parts (18A-18F), in order to create a three-dimensional curved structure.
