<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition for optical recording suitable for manufacturing a holographic recording medium having high recording and reproducing accuracy. <P>SOLUTION: A compound for optical recording is expressed by general formula (1). In the formula (1), A and B represent alkyl groups, aryl groups or heterocyclic groups, each of which may independently have a substituent, and at least one of A and B has a polymerizable group; and C represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group.
