PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To set and modify the discharge timing of paste, a rate of discharge, discharge intervals or the like regardless of the transfer rate of the sheet by once discharging the paste onto a belt and then transferring and applying the paste from the belt onto a sheet. SOLUTION: The apparatus for applying an adhesive 751 which coats the sheet with the paste is provided with a paste applicator 720 discharging the paste and a paste transfer belt 709 which is adhered with the paste discharged from the paste applicator and which can be circulated or stop circulation. The paste adhered on the peripheral surface of the paste transfer belt is applied onto the sheet by bringing the sheet into contact with the peripheral surface of the paste transfer belt 709.
