<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image-registration method and apparatus, which quickly execute image registration and show stable performance even when difference in characteristics is large between two images to be matched. <P>SOLUTION: The image-registration method includes: acquiring first and second images; generating image pyramids via a sub-sampling process which reduces the length and width of each of the images by half, and determining an optimal movement direction in directions of (-1, 0), (1, 0), (0, 0) (0, -1), and (0, 1) from two images at the same level in an order from the images at an uppermost level to a lowermost level, updating a motion vector based on the optimal movement direction; and updating a first image that belongs to a level directly below the current level based on the updated motion vector for the current level. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
