A metal complex compound with a structure containing metals such as iridium, and a monodentate ligand such as a hydrogen atom other than a bidentate ligand. An employment of a metal compound with a ligand having two oxygen atoms as a material for preparing the metal complex compound. An organic electroluminescence device being composed of one or more organic thin film layers having at least a light emitting layer sandwiched between a pair of electrodes wherein at least one of the organic thin film layer contains the metal complex compound. The organic electroluminescence device has an excellent stability, a great efficiency and a long lifetime of light emission due to the metal complex compound.
