[Also in Group XIII] The drying section 1 of a paper-making machine comprises a travelling felt enclosed in a hood 2, from which warm exhaust air is conducted through a pipe 3, a heat-exchanger 4, in which it heats water circulating in a hot water system 5, then through a pipe 10 and a heatexchanger 11, in which it heats fresh air entering through a pipe 12, and finally through a pipe 17 and a blower 18, which delivers the exhaust air into the atmosphere. The rate of delivery of exhaust air by the blower, i.e. its speed, is controlled by the humidity of the air within the hood, measured at a point 19 and transmitted to the blower along a signal line 21, and/or by the temperature of the exhaust air leaving the hood, measured at a point 20 and transmitted along a signal line 22. The blower 18 may be controlled, by the temperature of the exhaust air, so that its speed does not fall low enough to cause the humidity of the said air to exceed a predetermined value. Heated fresh air is conducted, from the heat-exchanger 11, through a pipe 13, a blower 14 and a heater 15 into the base of the drying section to serve as below felt air. The rate of delivery of the blower 14 may be controlled according to the performance of the blower 18, along a signal line 23 connecting them, so that the speed of the blower 14 varies directly as the speed of the blower 18. Some of the heated fresh air may be conducted, through a pipe 16, to an air-conditioning or ventilation plant (not shown).</p> |
