PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a start controller of an internal combustion engine which can stably operate the internal combustion engine at the start of the engine and quickly respond to occurrence of an abnormal status. SOLUTION: At the start of the engine, at least one of ignition timing and a fuel injection volume is controlled until an engine rotating speed is settled to a certain rotating speed. A time period taken for a crank angle to proceed by a certain angle when fuel with a given property has been used is defined as a time period for judgment. A time period taken actually for the crank angle to proceed by the certain angle is calculated sequentially as actual time period. When a deviation between the time period for judgment and the actual time period is larger than a limiting deviation, the ignition timing or the fuel injection volume is controlled depending on the deviation itself between the time period for judgment and the actual time period.
