The method involves supplying an electrical energy to an on-board supply system (3) by using an on-board supply system battery (4), and continuously determining an actual-charging condition of the system battery. The supply system battery is charged in a given reference-charging condition by using an external power supply unit (6) based on a determined vehicle condition. The electrical energy is supplied to the system battery in a driving condition by a photovoltaic-module when a given minimum-charging condition is achieved. An independent claim is also included for a device for executing a method for operating a vehicle.
