The device (10) has flip-flops (12-24) connected in series, each with inputs and at least one output, and a signal feedback arrangement so that outputs of at least two different flip-flops are fed to an Exclusive-OR logic circuit that is connected on the output side to at least one input of the series-connected flip-flops. The Exclusive-OR logic is formed by individual logic gates and at least two of the logic gates forming the Exclusive-OR logic are connected to two different flip-flops arranged upstream of the flip-flops whose outputs are fed to the Exclusive-OR logic.
