摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing an optical compensating element, facilitating manufacture more than before and reducing the manufacturing cost. <P>SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing an optical compensating element, includes in order: a substrate preparing step S10 of preparing a plurality of translucent support substrates and a plurality of inorganic substrates formed of inorganic material having birefringence; a substrate grinding step S20 of grinding the plurality of translucent support substrates and the plurality of inorganic substrates to a predetermined thickness; a substrate grouping step S30 of measuring each thickness of the plurality of translucent support substrates and grouping the measured translucent substrates to have a difference in thickness of 1&mu; between the substrates within the same group; a substrate aligning and sticking step S40 of aligning and sticking the inorganic substrates and the grouped translucent support substrates to each other; and an inorganic substrate grinding/polishing step S50 of setting the inorganic substrates to which the translucent support substrates of the same group are stuck in a grinder and a polisher to grind and polish the inorganic substrates. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
