PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carrier which prevents toner from being spent, prevents a covering piece and attachment piece from easily removed from a carrier covering layer, reduces resistance change and decrease in an amount of electrostatic charge, prevents carrier adhesion and color staining of an image, prevents surface oxidation and degradation in moisture sensitiveness, extends the life of a developer, and protects from flaw or wear of a photoreceptor by the carrier, and provide a two-component type developer using the same, and an image forming method using the same, and a process cartridge for the same. SOLUTION: The carrier for the electrophotographic developer is composed of core material particles having magnetism and a binder resin layer covering the particles, in which the binder resin layer contains at least one kind of hard particles and the ratio (D1/h) of a grain size D1 (μm) to the a mean thickness h (μm) of the resin portion in the covering layer satisfies 1<(D1/h)<10.
