PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet carrying device capable of adjusting the quantity of light from a light emitting part regardless of the number of carried paper sheets, and thus securely preventing detection errors of a sensor caused by aging effects, and an image forming device equipped with the sheet carrying device. SOLUTION: The sheet carrying device has sheet carrying passages 40, 104 for each carrying a sheet P to a predetermined carrying direction X; a reflection type optical sensor S for reflecting irradiation light La from the light emitting part Sa to the sheets P carried to the sheet carrying passages 40, 104 and receiving reflected light Lb from the sheet P in a light receiving part Sb to detect the presence/absence of the sheet P; an irradiation light adjusting part 61 for adjusting the light quantity of the light emitting part Sa; and a control part 50. The control part 50 performs light irradiation from the light emitting part Sa to at least a non-image area P0 of the carried sheet P, measures the reflected light Lb received from the non-image area P0 in the light receiving part Sb, and controls the irradiation light adjusting part 61 based on a measured value by the measurement to adjust the light quantity of the light emitting part Sa.
