PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means for efficiently acquiring a desirable image for a user under a situation in which the number of persons increases in an angle of view immediately before photographing. SOLUTION: An imaging apparatus has an imaging section, a face detection section, a memory, a face authentication section, and a control section. The imaging section converts an object image photoelectrically to generate the data of an image. The face detection section detects a face area included in the image, and determines whether the number of face areas increases between a first image generated according to a user's instruction and a second one generated after capturing the first image. The memory records face registration data indicating the features of a face to be authenticated. The face authentication section determines whether the face to be authenticated is included in the face area, based on the face registration data. The control section executes at least one of warning operation to the user and the re-imaging operation of the image according to the number of face areas in the first and second images, and changes the determination conditions of operation according to a result determined by the face authentication section.
