PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bill storage cassette that can further improve storage efficiency and a handling property in an empty state of the storage cassette, and a bill handling machine using the bill storage cassette. SOLUTION: The bill storage cassette 3 has a bag body 42 made of cloth and easily deformable in any direction, a frame body 43 mounted to an opening of the bag body 42, and a shutter 53 opening/closing a lead-in port inside the frame body 43, and can store bills in the bag body 42 through the lead-in port 52 of the frame body 43 in the open state of the shutter 53. The bill storage cassette 3 further has a belt body 74 for contracting the bag body 42, a winding shaft body rotated by receiving driving force from the outside to wind the belt body 74 to thereby contract the bag body 42, and a ratchet mechanism allowing the rotation of the winding shaft body in a direction to wind the belt body 74 and regulating the rotation in the reverse direction.
