摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve wide color reproducibility as the whole of an image without spoiling brightness of the entire image. <P>SOLUTION: A light source 1 included in a backlight of a color image display device includes a semiconductor light-emitting device, wherein a solid light-emitting element which emits light of a range from the ultraviolet region to the near ultraviolet region and phosphors which are excited by the light from the solid light-emitting element to emit light are combined. The phosphors includes a blue phosphor, a green phosphor, and a red phosphor. The phosphors satisfies one or more of the condition that: an external quantum efficiency of the blue phosphor excited with light having a wavelength of 395 nm is &ge;77%; an external quantum efficiency of the green phosphor excited with light having a wavelength of 395 nm is &ge;70%; an external quantum efficiency of the red phosphor excited with light having a wavelength of 395 nm is &ge;50%. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
