<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering control unit capable of maintaining good steering during dry steering, and having excellent energy efficiency. <P>SOLUTION: The steering control unit 40 has an auxiliary power supply circuit 60 with a boosting chopper circuit 50 being connected to a capacitor 56. When the battery supply current Ib supplied from a battery 92 to the steering control unit 40 becomes higher than the reference current Ik, and the battery supply voltage Vb is smaller than the reference voltage Vbk, the boosting chopper circuit 50 is operated to supply the power from the auxiliary power supply circuit 60 to a motor driving circuit 43.
