A miniature commutator type electric motor has a brush holder comprising two superposed electrically insulating plates 13, 14 and two mutually facing flexible brush arms 15 passing through an opening 20 in the motor casing, each arm 15 comprising a socketshaped intermediate portion receiving a brush 17 and two end portions respectively clamped between the plates 13, 14 and bent outwardly at 18 to guide the socket over its respective side of the commutator 19 when during motor assembly the brush arms are passed through the opening 20. The brush arms are of pinchbeck and have stiffening ribs 21. Pins 10, lugs 22 and a screw 24 locate and secure the brush holder to the base plate 11 of an end plate 3 which preferably is of transparent material and is secured to the magnetic cylindrical carcass 1 of the casing by three equispaced tongues 8 bent radially inwardly into slots 9 in the end plate periphery. The other end plate 2, of magnetic material, is similarly secured to the carcass. Shaft supporting ball bearings 27 are seated in a race 28 embedded in an end plate bore closed by a cover 29 held by three riveted plastic lugs 31. The motor has a stator field tubular permanent magnet (not shown) fixed at one end to end plate 2 and providing two diametrically opposed poles. |
