PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a liquid crystal element, which can drive liquid crystal at a low threshold voltage. SOLUTION: In gel-state liquid crystal material, functional materials link with each other to form a three-dimensional net-like or honey comb-like structure. The gel state is formed, so that the amount of functional material added to a liquid crystal matrix is generally increased by ten times or more. After that, when the gel state is canceled, the functional materials in the liquid crystal material between alignment layers are optically put in the substantially uniform dispersed state, and order parameter of liquid crystal molecules is decreased, so that liquid crystal can be driven at low threshold voltage.
