PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a difference in response characteristics due to polarity difference of a liquid crystal capacitance. SOLUTION: A LUT (look-up table) 542 outputs a compensation value Od corresponding to supplied display data Dv and previous display data Dp by one frame of the current display data. A coefficient determination circuit 543 outputs a coefficientαlarger than 1 upon converting the polarity into either a positive polarity or a negative polarity by a polarity designation signal Frp and outputs a coefficientαequal to 1 upon converting the polarity into the other positive or negative polarity. A multiplication circuit 544 multiplies the compensation value Od by the coefficientα; an addition circuit 545 adds the display data Dv to the multiplied valueα×Od and outputs the result as display data Db subjected to response compensation.
