PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for cutting off a crop, which method can prevent that the crop is caught between a crop chute and a chute gate when the tail end crop of the steel material rolled into a nearly H shape cross section is cut off by means of a shear having a lower cutting blade arranged on the upstream side in the carrying direction and an upper cutting blade arranged on the downstream side in the carrying direction. SOLUTION: In the method for cutting off the crop, the tail end crop 11b of the steel material rolled so as to have the nearly H shape cross section is cut off by means of the shear 5 having the lower cutting blade 5a arranged on the upstream side in the carrying direction and the upper cutting blade 5b arranged on the downstream side in the carrying direction. In this case, the web 2 only of the tail end crop is cut off at the position projecting toward the tail end side. Then, the steel material is reversely fed to the position capable of cutting off the tail end crop having a flange 3, and then the tail end crop having the flange is cut off by means of the shear.
