<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader and a production method for the image reader, allowing thinning as compared with a conventional image reader. <P>SOLUTION: This image reader 1 has: a transparent substrate 2; an organic EL (Electro Luminescence) element 10 formed on one face of the transparent substrate 2; and an imaging device 20 having a plurality of light receiving elements 3 formed on the other face of the transparent substrate 2.
