Mounting for a probe sensor

A robust, easy to mount probe sensor (12) includes an elongated body (18) enclosing a sensor element (30) and an integral flange (20) extending away from the body (18). The body (18) and flange (20) are formed of material having a relatively low characteristic yield point. First and second generally parallel closely spaced through passages (26, 28) extend through the flange (20). An insert (58) formed of material having a relatively high characteristic yield point is disposed in one of the passages (26, 28). A fastener (16) including a shank portion (50) which extends through the other passageway (26, 28) includes an enlarged head (48) which overlays the insert (58) containing passageway and engages an attachment structure (14) to effect directed compressive loading of the probe sensor flange (20).
