<p>A lightweight air bag serving as a protective device for crews and passengers in case of the collision of a vehicle, permitting compact packaging, and being excellent in airtightness and seam strength. This air bag is characterized in that the bag body is made by using as the base cloth a woven fabric which is made of a raw yarn having a fineness of less than 150 denier, has either a cover factor of 2100 or above or a basis weight of 140 g/m<2> or below, and is preferably coated with a heat-resistant elastomer in a coating weight of 10 g/m<2> or below, and that a reinforcing cloth is fixed by sewing so as to cover at least part of the seams of the air bag body, particularly the periphery of the opening for fitting an inflator, with a sewing yarn count (T) and a stitch number (S) (stitches/cm) as specified by the following formulae: (1) 10<T≤60, (2) 2≤T/S≤8. <IMAGE></p> |
