A digital photographing apparatus and a control method thereof are provided to perform the negative-processing for an image on a live-view screen when a user photographs a subject at a dark place. If the first shutter-release signal is inputted from a user(S110), a controller determines whether the currently set mode is a night photographing mode(S120). If so, the controller sets up a parameter value corresponding to the negative conversion(S130), and then displays a picture, negatively processed by the parameter value, on a live-view screen(S140). While the negative-processed image is being displayed, if the second shutter-release signal is inputted(S150), an image conversion unit inversely converts the displayed image by the control of the controller(S160). A digital signal processor generates the inversed images into a JPEG video file by controlling an image processor and then displays/stores it in a storage unit(S170).
