A polyimide introduced with cinnamate is provided to show excellent orientation state after the thermal stability test for a long time and to prevent the generation of after image which is an electrical characteristic. A polyimide has a cinnamate group containing a repeating unit represented by the chemical formula 1. A method for manufacturing a liquid crystal aligning film comprises (i) a step of forming a coating material by dissolving the polyimide introduced with the cinnamate group in solvent, and applying it on a substrate; (ii) a step of drying the solvent included in the coating layer; and (iii) a step of performing the orientation by irradiating polarized ultraviolet rays on the dried coating layer. The solvent of (i) step is selected from cyclopentanone, cyclohexanone, N-methylpyrrolidone, DMF(dimethylformamide), THF(tetrahydrofuran), CCl4 and their mixture.
