SKETCH BASED 3D MODEL CREATING APPARATUS AND METHOD

A sketch-based three-dimensional model creating apparatus and a method thereof are provided to generate a 3D model through the template matching for a sketch drawn by a user. A sketch edge graph generator(101) generates the central curve from an inputted two-dimensional cubic sketch, and then generates finally a sketch edge graph from the central curve. A template matching unit(103) calls a pre-defined template to perform the template matching. A 3D model generating unit(105) comprises a 3D curve generating unit (105a), 3D curved surface generating unit (105b) and a stroke mapping unit(105c). The 3D curve generating unit produces a 3D curve from a 2D curve specified by the labeled sketch edge graph. A 3D curved surface generating unit generates a 3D curved surface from the 3D curve.
