A plasma display device includes a plasma display panel having a sustaining electrode, a scanning electrode, and an address electrode on a first substrate and a driving portion for driving the plasma display panel. For example, the driving portion alternately applies a first voltage and a second voltage to the sustaining electrode while alternately applying the second voltage and the first voltage to the scanning electrode, during the sustaining period. Moreover, the driving portion applies a first control voltage to the address electrode during the sustaining period and then applies a second control voltage having a different voltage value from that of the first control voltage to the address electrode in the middle of the sustaining period, and for the rest of the sustaining period, keeps the address electrode at the second control voltage. Consequently, sustain discharging can be surely generated.
