The method involves separating a base metal sheet (5) from a sheet metal strip (1) present in the form of a coil (2). The reinforced metal sheet (7) is firmly connected to the base metal sheet. The sheet metal strip is fed to a cutting line (Z) having a cutting machine (3). A severing operation is carried out in the cutting machine, by which the base metal sheet is severed from the sheet metal strip. The connection of the reinforced metal sheet to the base metal sheet occurs in the cutting line.
