Condensation products of quaternary salts of resinous c-vinylpyridine polymers with hydrazines containing quaternary nitrogen atoms and photographic films rendered antistatic therewith

Quaternary salts of resinous C-vinylpyridine polymers wherein at least 70% by weight of the vinylpyridine units have the formula:- where R is an alkyl group of 1 to 4 carbon atoms or a phenyl group, Y is hydrogen or an alkyl group of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and X is a halogen atom, (as described in Specification 855,028), are reacted with betaine hydrazine hydrochloride to give polymeric condensation products of containing units of formula:- or are reacted with carbohydrazinomethyl-pyridinium chloride to give products containing units of formula:- The polymer may be a copolymer with styrene, an acrylic acid ester or amide, or an a -alkyl acrylic acid ester or amide. In examples condensation products of poly-4-vinylpyridinium chloroacetone and poly-4-vinylpyridinium a chloroacetophenone with carbohydrazinomethylpyridinium chloride and with betaine hydrazide hydrochloride, are obtained. The products are used as antistatic coatings on photographic films.
