PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an iron arsenate powder which is produced from an arsenic-containing solution and exhibits a very low concentration of the arsenic eluted. SOLUTION: The iron arsenate powder is a powder of an iron arsenate dihydrate salt, has an orthorhombic crystal structure and has a lattice constant at a room temperature and a normal pressure of a=0.8950-0.8956 nm, b=1.0321-1.0326 nm and c=1.0042-1.0050 nm. The iron arsenate powder is prepared by adding a divalent iron ion to an arsenic-containing solution to prepare a solution having a molar ratio of arsenic to iron (Fe/As) of 1 or more, adding an oxidizing agent and reacting at 70°C or higher while stirring, and then subjecting the resultant reaction mixture to a solid-liquid separation, followed by washing the resultant solid.
