The self ignited internal combustion engine has a crankcase, in which a crankshaft is pivoted. The crankshaft is planked with a generator (3). A piston is carried by a connecting rod, which is attached to the crankshaft. The piston is moved in a cylinder forming a combustion chamber. A time or temperature controlled switching element is provided to control a blocking device limiting the fuel quantity at a high value. An independent claim is included for a method for operating a self ignited internal combustion engine.
