The apparatus main body includes a main-body-side recording and reproducing unit (20) that houses a main recording medium and a mounting section in which a first main-body-side terminal section (163), to which an auxiliary recording medium unit (5) that houses an auxiliary recording medium (131) is connected, and a second main-body-side terminal section (166) branched from a signal line identical with that of the main-body-side terminal section (163) are provided. The auxiliary recording medium unit (5) includes a unit-side recording and reproducing unit that houses an auxiliary recording medium (131), a unit-side terminal section (141) connected to the first main-body-side terminal section (163), and an operation unit for operating the unit-side recording and reproducing unit. The auxiliary recording medium unit (5) is detachably mountable on the mounting section. When the auxiliary recording medium unit (5) is mounted on the mounting section, the second main-body-side terminal section (166) is closed.
