METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR EXTRACTING THUMBNAIL VIDEO ON HIGH SPEED IN H.264/AVC COMPRESSED DOMAIN, AND RECORDING MEDIUM USING IT

A method for extracting a thumbnail image at a high speed in the H.264/AVC compression zone, an apparatus thereof and a recording medium for recording the same are provided to reduce the calculation amount of compensation corresponding to the intra prediction from an encoded video bit stream. DCT coefficients quantized according to each address of a macro block are extracted(610). The pixel data within the macro block is generated by using the extracted and quantized DCT coefficients(620). According to the intra prediction mode information, the intra prediction mode of each address of the macro block in which the pixel data is generated is selected(630). The brightness of the macro block is calculated by using the border pixel data of peripheral macro blocks surrounding the macro block(640). A thumbnail image of a specific moving picture from which the DCT coefficient is extracted is generated according to the brightness(650).
