Class 82(2) A flotation machine comprises a vat with a gently sloping bottom at one end and a cylindrical baffle at the other, and a horizontal hollow perforated metal drum which is partially immersed in the vat mounted concentrically with the baffle and rotated, pulp being fed to one end of the drum together with air and liquid, and the mixed fluid being expelled through the perforations above the liquid level, froth being skimmed from the surface of the vat. As shown, drum 4 is rotatably mounted on bearings 11 in vat 1 and comprises a perforated metal sheet supported by portions: 5 on shaft 6. The drum is closed at one end by end plate 104 and the other open end revolves in a groove in ring 10. Feed is introduced into container 8 together with air via lid 25 and frothing reagent added from doser 37. They are drawn into the drum by a screw impeller 26 and the rotation of the drum throws the pulp mixed with air and frothing agent out of the non- immersed part of the drum in the form of a froth. The froth is removed into a channel 28 by revolving skimming blades 27. Treated pulp can be returned to the drum by closing the normal outlet and opening valve 24 in ducts 23 so that pulp in vat 1 is returned to chamber 8 and to the drum. The level of liquid in vat 1 is controlled by overflow sluice 43 which can be raised or lowered by means of screw spindle 42 and control nut 41. |
