IMAGE INTERPOLATION METHOD AND APPARATUS

An image interpolation method and an apparatus thereof are provided to generate interpolating values of horizontal/vertical directions, calculate correlation between pixel values of an input image and interpolating values of horizontal/vertical directions and interpolate an interpolating direction per a pixel by using the correlation, thereby obtaining a reliable color image. An image interpolation apparatus generates a G channel interpolating image of a horizontal direction and a G channel interpolating image of a vertical direction(610). The image interpolation apparatus generates reference images of horizontal direction having 5x5 size by using the G channel interpolating image of the horizontal direction and an input CFA image and generates reference images of vertical direction having 5x5 size by using the G channel interpolating image of the vertical direction and the input CFA image(620). The image interpolation apparatus calculates correlation values indicating correlation between the reference image of horizontal direction and a G channel interpolating correction image of horizontal direction and generate a correlation map of a G channel correction image of horizontal direction comprises of the calculated correlation values(630).
