The system (100) has a pair of control devices (101, 109) provided in form of CPUs for separately storing navigation map data and updating data. One of the control devices is operated as a navigation system (106) of a vehicle e.g. ship. The navigation system is operated on the basis of the navigation map data. Other control device is operated as a driver assistance system (110) e.g. anti blocking system, or coupled with another driver assistance system. The driver assistance system (110) enhances or updates the navigation map data on the basis of the updating data. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for updating a navigation map (2) a computer program product for executing a method for updating a navigation map (3) a computer readable medium for storing a computer program product.
