<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device capable of displaying an image in a way as to be appropriately observable by an observer even if a visual distance is changed without requiring precise control of an optical system and an increase of power consumption. <P>SOLUTION: For example, the display device 100 is equipped with a visual distance measurement section 110, an operation mode switching means 102, and a display means 103. The visual distance measurement section 110 measures the distance (visual distance) between the observer and the display means 103, and inputs the visual distance to the operation mode switching means 102.
