PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow for checking of self-diagnosis results of each configuration block in a video signal processing apparatus by utilizing an output video generator capable of recording or monitoring transmitted caption or text broadcasting superimposed in a vertical blanking period of a video signal. SOLUTION: A video signal processing apparatus having a plurality of configuration blocks for performing a predetermined signal processing to an inputted video signal and for displaying a video has a self-diagnosis part 10 collecting self-diagnosis results of each configuration block, an output video signal generator 21 converting the inputted video signal into a format corresponding to an external recording equipment, signal generators 22 and 23 generating text information or caption information to be included in a vertical blanking period of an output video signal, and a superimposing part 24 superimposing this information on the output video signal. The self-diagnosis results are inputted to the signal generator, and superimposed in the vertical blanking period of the video signal to be outputted.
