PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight driving device in which PWM resolving power is improved even when a low-cost circuit construction is utilized. SOLUTION: The backlight driving device adjusts luminance of a light source of a backlight 11 to light a liquid crystal panel 10 with a PWM driving method. In the case of turning on the light source with predetermined luminance in a turn-on period L in one frame, and for the purpose of outputting a pulse width X corresponding to the predetermined luminance, the backlight driving device outputs a pulse signal having a pulse width smaller than the pulse width X and further being equivalent to a multiple of a PWM resolution S and a pulse signal having a pulse width larger than the pulse width X and further being equivalent to the multiple of the PWM resolution S, within the turn-on period L for each period T, with a predetermined ratio.
