PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an insulation detector of a floating power supply for ensuring safety, without having to increase the cost and the size of an apparatus, and preventing an accident due to a charge in a capacitor, when a failure occurs. SOLUTION: The insulation detector 1 charges the capacitor 9 by switching connections of a plurality of switches, detects the voltage between both terminals of the capacitor 9, and also detects the insulation state of an apparatus to be detected. When a voltage detecting means 11 detects an abnormal high voltage in the capacitor 9, a switching control means 11 opens all the switches; and further, when a previously measured ground resistance is a reference or larger, the switching control means closes the switches for discharging the capacitor 9.
