PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mode switching unit applied to a car navigation device and the like that is switched over to a mode in which its operation or display is limited when an automobile runs and the mode is optionally switched over and an additional arrangement of an operation switch for switching over the mode is eliminated. SOLUTION: It is assumed that a mode switching unit 1 is applied to a car navigator 10 for discriminating whether or not an automobile is running in response to an automobile speed pulse signal or the like and the mode switching unit is mounted on the automobile having electronic unit control network 20 (Can bus etc.) to which a plurality of electronic units are connected. A mode switching unit 1 detects an operation code flowed in the electronic unit control network 20 in response to a predetermined operation and switches ON/OFF of an input of an automobile speed pulse signal to the car navigator 10. That is, the mode of the car navigator 10 is switched over not through an operation switch, but through a predetermined operation at the electronic unit connected to the electronic unit control network 20.
