Class 100(1) In a fabric or like storage device of the kind in which two drums are spaced apart on parallel axes and have hubs connected to each end of a flexible liner web of a length corresponding to the length of the material to be sorted, one drum is angularly movable bodily about a fixed axis on the storage device. As applied to a device for storing tyre ply material with a lining web interposed between the wound convolutions, a frame I carries a shaft 3 supporting a main drum 5 and a pair of arms 4 supporting an auxiliary drum 6. The arms 4 have notched plates 4a co-operating with a tooth 7 on a pedal 7a to locate the arms 4 in the positions shown, e.g. for winding and unwinding the material to be stored. Further notches may be provided to locate the arms in other positions. A connecting rod 8 pivoted to one of the arms has a sliding connection 9 with a bell-crank lever 10. A tension spring 11 is connected to one arm 10a, while a telescopic damper 12 is connected to the other arm 10b of the lever 10. The damper 12 retards the movement of the arms 4 when they are moved in to the horizontal position. A liner web, for winding up with the tyre ply material, is secured at either end to the hubs of the drums 5 and 6. Coupling discs 14 and 15, Fig. 7, carry respectively a pinion 17 engaging a pinion 18 on the drum 6 and a sprocket wheel 19 driving a sprocket wheel 20 on the drum 5. A coupling member 30, Fig. 8, can engage either disc 14 or 15, Fig. 7, to effect driving or braking of the drums 5 or 6. The member 30, Fig. 8, is mounted on a shaft 29 axially slidable in sleeves 34 between positions determined by a grooved pulley 31 with stops 32a, 32b. The shaft 29 carries a sprocket 33 connected by a chain, not shown, to a sprocket 27 on a shaft 24 which may be driven or braked by a brake drum 28. The shaft 29 may be swung around the shaft 24 by an arm 25. Specification 882,504 is referred to. |
