Preparation (I) comprises water, hydrophilic polyester obtained from at least a dicarboxylic acid, at least a polyalkyleneglycol and at least a monofunctional alcohol, optionally one or more surfactant and optionally one or more organic solvents. Independent claims are included for: (1) hydrophilically coating a biaxially oriented polyester foil, comprising coating at least a foil surface with (I); and (2) a coated polyester foil, where the coating is a dry product of (I).
