A wire grid (100) is constituted by weaving a stainless wire (11) as a warp and a silk yarn (12) as a weft while crossing the yarns alternately one by one, and then fixing the woven fabric to a frame (20). Pitch of the stainless wire (11) is determined depending on the wavelength to be polarized/detected. The silk yarn (12) is removed as required. Such problems as cutting or uneven interval of metal wires due to stretching thin metal wires long in parallel on the frame, and multiple reflection or interference of the substrate or a base material due to thin line patterning by etching through use of the substrate or a base material are avoided resulting in a high precision wire grid for polarizing/detecting electromagnetic wave which can be produced easily at a low cost.
