<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel gel coat from which disadvantages of a technical grade gel coat, which is a problem underlying the present invention, is completely or at least partially removed, and to provide a method for preparing such the gel coat. <P>SOLUTION: The cured or uncured gel coat composition contains at least one resin and, based on the total mass of the composition, 0.1-15 mass% at least one precipitated silica having a BET surface area of -150 to 250 m<SP>2</SP>/g, a SiO<SB>2</SB>content of ≥-98.5 mass% and a Na<SB>2</SB>O content of ≤-0.5 mass%. The method for preparing the gel coat composition comprises the steps of: forming the gel coat composition by combining at least one silica with at least one unsaturated polyester; and optionally curing the composition. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
