PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple and inexpensive assay method detecting the presence or the amount of a chemical substance present in an environmental sample without using an expensive measuring device such as that of a fluorescent method. SOLUTION: This method for detecting the chemical substance is provided by using a recombinant cell transformed by operably joining a polynucleotide encoding an oxidation-reduction enzyme in the downstream of a monitoring promotor gene changing its promotor activity by responding to the chemical substance.
